Isabelle's Monday Morning Message

Isabelle has something she'd like to say. I'm pretty sure she's saying something like "Happy Monday everyone!" Maybe not. What do you think?!

BCIII Birthday Weekend

Today is Bob's birthday, so we've been celebrating all weekend! For his birthday breakfast yesterday we had cheesecake pancakes. Baby sweetie loved them! For his birthday dinner we had bay scallops in a sweet and sour orange sauce along with fried potatoes. For his birthday dessert, his favorite--Georgie Porgie. Yum! Isabelle has been a daddy's girl all weekend. She came down with an ear infection and has had a fever since Friday. We've had her on an antibiotic and tylenol/ibuprofen. Hopefully, she'll start to feel better soon. On Sunday, I got to play the drums at 27 weeks pregnant! It was a lot of fun, but I was a little nervous. It all worked out though, and my baby boy would start kicking and moving around every time I stopped for a minute or so. I think he liked it! (ha!) I tend to be nostalgic, so it was very special to me to get to play drums (first time I met Bob was when I was trying out for the drummer position for worship band) on my husband's birthday with our little BCIV on the way, on the 34th anniversary of the day I was dedicated to the Lord. We went to lunch with some cool friends (shh! don't tell anyone) and  came home and relaxed and hung out with baby friend the rest of the day. It was a perfect weekend!

Poor guy had to help make his own birthday dinner! (With my cooking catastrophes this week, I figured this was the safest way to ensure it'd turn out!)

Georgie Porgie! MMmmm..

She had to be wherever he was!

Girl loves her mac and cheese..

Not My Finest..

Cooking. I have a love/hate relationship with cooking. Ok, nope it's just a hate relationship. In the past 18 hours, I've managed to screw up some simple things. First, for dinner last night, I made a couple hamburgers for Bob, and cut up some zucchini to fry. I was seasoning the zucchini while holding Isabelle, and opened the wrong part of the lid on the garlic powder. (Ok, so I didn't know that I should have used the regular garlic and not the powder, either.) Well, almost the whole bottle ended up in my frying pan. Well, I didn't want to throw it away, so I ended up cooking it. Actually, I let it sit in the pan for about 20 minutes before cooking it because it wasn't quite time to start it. I began to smell the garlic all throughout the house. Um, yeah. So, anyway, the zukes were inedible.
Second issue was making lunch for Isabelle. I decided to take the easy route and make her mac-n-cheese for lunch. The girl absolutely loves that! Well, I forgot that I don't have any milk at the moment and the thought of adding water to it disgusts me. So, my solution...(I needed something cold to cool it down so she could eat it) was apple juice. Fail. Not just fail. Epic fail. Wow.
Tonight's dinner is in the crockpot. Let's hope this one works. Here's the recipe:
Chicken, Zucchini, and Potato Soup
Hefty chunks of potato, chicken breast, and zucchini round out this stew perfect for a cold winter's day. The medley of veggies, plus a sprinkle of nutmeg, guarantees this soup is as filling as it is flavorful.
2 lbs. potatoes, peeled and cut into inch square pieces
2 lbs. chicken breast
2 lbs. zucchini, cut into inch square pieces
2 med. onions, chopped
5 c. low-sodium chicken broth
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tbsp. per serving unsweetened Greek yogurt (optional)
Place all ingredients into a crock pot, layering potatoes first, then chicken, followed by zucchini and onions last. Pour in low sodium chicken broth, and sprinkle nutmeg on top. Cover and cook for 8-10 hours on low heat. After cooking, shred chicken with a fork. When ready to serve, add a tablespoon of unsweetened Greek yogurt to each bowl and enjoy.

Love me a Rebel.

Who'd like to buy me a Canon Rebel?! No, I'm serious. Anyone? Anyone? Look at these pictures. It's just plain not right to NOT have one. (I couldn't agree more, Mel. That's so true.)

Birthday Party Pictures

We had our family birthday party yesterday celebrating my grandfather-in-law, father-in-law, husband, 2 brothers-in-law, daughter and my birthdays. We all have birthdays in the month of January or very early February. The place was decked out in Isabelle decor. I have to say a special thanks to my friend, Michelle, for all her help with the decorations (banner, cupcake toppers, invitations, tutu). She was a lifesaver for me! (Thanks for making stuff for me and letting me borrow your stuff! You seriously rock!) Here are a few pictures of the day.

Isabelle's new cupcake shirt from Aunt Becky matched the decor perfectly!

Sadie made balloons for each of us celebrating a birthday

One Step at a Time, Sweet Isababy

Our delightful daughter still isn't walking yet, but she sure is on her way. She took a couple steps on Saturday night, January 14th. It was later in the evening and she was kind of fussy and just wanting to be held. Well, I would pick her up, then she would climb back down and cry to get back up in my lap. Her daddy was upstairs working on homework, so we had spent most of the day just the two of us hanging out in the family room. Since she couldn't make up her mind about whether she wanted up or down, I encouraged her to go play with her big pink Cinderella ball that her grandpa had gotten her for Christmas. She's such a smart girl, that she knows what I'm talking about when I ask her to go find her ball (elmo or paci too). She went over to the ball, stood up and it moved out in front of her just a bit. She was kind of in the corner of the room and so I was glad I just happened to have seen her take 2 steps toward the ball. I quickly called her daddy down to watch her, and she took a couple more steps so he could see, then clapped for herself while we were clapping for her. Yesterday, she took 4 steps and today I've seen her take 8. So, it won't be long! The cutest thing about it is that when we clap for her, she lays down on the floor, belly up and waits for us to come tickle her. It's so cute! (P.S. Sorry the video is sideways, but I'm amazed that it's even working at this point!)

Happy 1st Birthday, Baby Sweetie!

Isabelle weighed in at 19lb 5 oz and was 30 1/4 inches tall. She is standing on her own for 2-3 seconds, but isn't walking quite yet. She loves to eat! This month I hope to get her switched to milk and a sippy cup and also hope to get her sleeping all night in her room. We have started the transition, and so far it's going alright. She lasts in there from 7:30 until 1am or so. She woke up 3 times last night prior to 1am, but went back to sleep with a couple pats on her tummy. She says "dada" and "mama" and babbles alot. She's still in size 3 diapers and size 12-18 months clothes. She is tall for her age! She has been taking naps in her carseat, which is a big change from having to be held for naps. It's nice to be able to put her down! She is a mommy's girl, big time! She doesn't like if I leave a room at all. She will play independently for a few minutes at a time as long as I'm within eye sight. She is doing better at being left with other people so that's nice. She had a surprise birthday party at my small group. It was really sweet! They bought her a cake and a drum and hung a banner, bought party hats, and everything was decorated in Elmo--her favorite! It was so sweet! We will be having a party on the 22nd for her, and I'm really excited about that. My friend helped me to make a banner and invitations for the party, and my MIL has already got them mailed and the banner hung up! The night before Isabelle's birthday, her dad and I gave her a birthday cupcake with a pink candle in it. We sang to her and told her how much we love her. Her birthday was filled with all sorts of doctors appointments and women's bible study events, etc and youth group. I made sure to tell everyone I could that it was her first birthday! haha! Here are a few birthday pictures I took of her. I made the brown and pink tutu and designed the shirt, too. I took over 135 pictures and for most of them she didn't cooperate. She screamed cause she didn't want to wear the headband and just wanted me to hold her the whole time. Goofy girl!
